About Hamuro mAiR

Hamuro Micro Residency (aka Hamuro mAiR) was born out of the marriage of an artist’s house, Hamuro – located in the Kanaz Forest of Creation in Awara, Fukui – and the inspiration of a contemporary artist, Shoji Kato (www.shoji-kato.com), who inherited Hamuro, giving it a new future.
This project was started in May 2024 and it will welcome many residents for the next two years with support from the Kone Foundation (Finland). Its experimental operation aims to promote inter-local connections and personal linkages.
The reason for the use of ‘micro’ in the name comes from the fact that the operation is small as Kato is the only administer, Hamuro mAiR is sustained by a small number of passionate volunteers and collaborators, and it is primarily committed to providing personal ‘coordinations and connections’ that are tailored to the needs of each resident.
It is a small start; however, this project will be sensitively and dynamically exploring worlds – discovering and creating new relationships among the residents from Finland and the locals of Japan.
We wish to extend the possibilities for creating the future by looking at and doing with the world from a micro perspective, deploying the sensitivities and imagination of each person involved, and by linking dialogues and inspirations.

The Concept of Hamuro mAiR

Hamuro is both part of the name of this project and the name of the house that will be used as the base for a social and cultural experimentation – co-evolving with artistic ideas and personal changes. It involves operating a micro residency for artists-in-residence in Japan that facilitates unique (mental/physical) journeys, local interactions and tranquil times for a number of invited artists and researchers. By providing this foreign but common place, this project observes if the personal discoveries of the residents and other people who would be involved in this project gradually co-create a meta-forum and a body of peers which can continuously encourage dialogues and adaptations. Can we give a new life to Hamuro, and can we make it an inspiring place for both personal and collective innovations? Can the project co-explore new knowledge and sensitivity that are unique to Japanese culture and that influence how we re-acknowledge the subtle but vital life elements running through not only human relationships but also non-human relationships? Can the project engender speculations and dreams about how subtle changes can resonate and stimulate new changes in both the cultural and social realms of both Japan and Finland?

ハムロ・マイクロ・レジデンシーとは

ハムロ・マイクロ・レジデンシー（Hamuro mAiR）は、あわら市金津創作の森にある葉室（はむろ）という屋号を持ったアーティストの家と、それを未来に受け継ぐアーティストの加藤将司（www.shoji-kato.com）の発案が結びつくことで生まれました。
フィンランドと日本をインター・ローカルに結ぶ実験的なアーティスト・イン・レジデンス・プロジェクトとしてフィンランドのKONE財団の助成支援を受け、2024年５月から２年間、多くのレジデンツを受け入れながら展開します。
「マイクロ」と名がつく理由は、運営者が加藤個人と規模がとても小さく、ローカルの有志に支えられていることと、一人一人の必要に応じたテイラード・コーディネーションや「縁結び」を提供することに由来しています。
葉室を拠点とした小さな始まりですが、ダイナミックなアイディアや繊細な感性とともに探索することで、フィンランドからくるレジデンツと日本でのプロジェクトに関わる人たちの間と共に「新しい繋がり」を見つけ、作っていきます。
関わる人各自の感じる心と想像する力と共に「世界」をマクロ的に見つめ、対話とインスピレーションを連鎖させながら「未来創り」の可能性を広げたいと願っております。

ハムロ・マイクロ・レジデンシー のコンセプト

葉室とはこのプロジェクトの名前であり、芸術的アイディアや個人の変化と共に展開する ― 社会的・文化的実験の拠点として使用される家の名前です。このプロジェクトは、日本・あわら市でのマイクロ・アーティスト・イン・レジデンス（mAiR）の運営を伴い、滞在活動するアーティストや研究者各自に独特な（精神的／物理的）旅、地域的な交流、静謐な時間を提供をしています。異文化が交差する葉室という共通の場所を提供することで、この葉室プロジェクトに参加するレジデンツ、そして交流する地域の人々の個人的な発見が、時間をかけて繋がり、メタ・フォーラム（話し合いの場）、「継続的な対話と適応ができるグループ」に発展していく様を考察しています。
私たち一人一人の参加によって、葉室に新たな生命を吹き込み、個人的・共同的イノベーションのための刺激的な場所にすることができるでしょうか？日本文化にみられる特有の知識や感性を共に探索することで、このプロジェクトは、人間同士だけでなく、人間以外の関係性にも通じる、微かだけれども不可欠な生命要素を再認識する方法にどのような影響を与えることができるでしょうか？
そのような変化が、日本とフィンランドの文化的・社会的領域において、どのように共鳴し連鎖しつづけるのか、このプロジェクトは思索できるでしょうか？
